CHURCH - CHAPELS

"Agios Georgios" Country Church

The country church of "Agios Georgios" (St. George) is built at the borders between Fyti and the old -once mixed population -village of Anadiou. As far as when the country church was constructed, this is something not known. It was previously standing a few meters beyond today's church, which was made about 80 years ago with the expenses paid by Georgios Constantinides.

It is said that it was the church of the Christian inhabitants of Anadiou, because the country church was too close to Anadiou. The church's floor was replaced, with expenses paid by Mr. Savvas Demetriou from Fyti.

"Agia Marina" Country Church

The country church of "Agia Marina" (St. Marina) is located at a small distance South-west of the village. Mrs. Antigoni Argyrou, an elderly woman from Fyti, remembers that in older times the country church was a series of rather large stones -circularly situated -with a large stone in the east side being the altar. In 1999, a small church was built in its place, the expenses being paid by Mr. Themistoklis Argyrou, a liturgy taking place in on the 17 th of July every year.

"Agios Symeon" Country Church

The small chapel of "Agios Symeon" (St. Symeon) is located in the elementary school's yard; some stones placed circularly under a turpentine-tree. The stones were moved about 40 years ago so that the school's playground would be formed. At the end of the school's yard, next to the barbed wire, there's a wooden box containing the Saint's icon, an offering by Mrs. Maria Nicolaou - Georgiadi.

"Stavros" Country Church

Outside the village's cemetery, at the edge of the cliff, stood the chapel of "Stavros" (Cross). Today, unfortunately, there are no traces of the chapel left.

"Agia Anastasia" Country Church

The ruins of the "Agia Anastasia" (St. Anastasia) chapel are located in the "Gerakopetra" venue.

In old times, a liturgy would take place in these chapels -one every day -during Passion Week.
